Measurement Speed – In Under 3 Seconds

Did you know that, in addition to being the leader in non-nuclear density measurement for the construction industry, TransTech Systems, Inc.’s gauges are also much faster than nuclear density gauges when taking a measurement? This is important because it allows TransTech’s PQI 380 and SDG 200 to take far more readings over a greater percentage of the mat or lift than nuclear density gauges are able to, which gives the operator much more confidence that the compaction is being done uniformly and is attaining the necessary density or compaction level required for the job.

Nuclear density gauge operator manuals recommend taking one-minute measurements for the most accurate result. However, many operators of nuclear density gauges try to speed up the process by using less than one-minute test lengths. Not only does this result in a less accurate measurement, but they are also still much slower than TransTech gauges, which are able to complete an accurate and repeatable test in less than three seconds! This comes in handy when the quality control technician using a PQI 380 on an asphalt paving job is taking measurements in the rolling train in between passes by the breakdown and/or finish rollers or if the technician is using an SDG 200 on a soil compaction job and needs to take fast readings in between vibratory and/or static roller passes.

Our devices can get the technician in and out of these test situations quickly and safely, while still getting a large number of highly accurate test results. This is not anywhere near as easy if they are using a nuclear density gauge. This is one of the main reasons why many former nuclear gauge owners are making the switch to TransTech’s non-nuclear gauges!
